Beau Jessup is a renowned entrepreneur, and public speaker, currently studying a B.Sc. Social Anthropology at The London School of Economics. She created the internationally acclaimed Chinese baby naming business; Specialname.cn
Inspired by a chance encounter during a trip to China when Beau was just 16, she created a website that generates supplementary, Western, names for prospective parents in China, based on their ideals and aspirations for their child.
In the first 4 months Beau named 250,000 Chinese babies and when news of her business was featured by BBC Online News her story went viral. In the first week of Sept 2016 Beau Jessup’s story was featured in 187 newspapers in 22 different countries.
In October 2016 Beau was invited to present a Tedx Talk in which she described how she became aware of China’s growing need for Western names, how she developed her idea into a website, then into a business and why she thinks her story connected with a global audience. Beau’s Tedx Talk has been viewed over 120,000 times and is now used in schools as an inspirational teaching tool.
Beau was the guest speaker at 2017 AllBright’s FoundHER Festival and appeared on the BBC One Show alongside Sir Richard Branson.
In 2017 she was listed in BusinessCloud’s Top 101 female founders of tech. The following year Beau was included in their ‘35 under 35 2018’: thirty-five entrepreneurs aged thirty-five or under who are setting the tech world alight.
She is an ambassador for Postcards for Peace working with children, parents and schools around the world to promote unity, equality and diversity.
Beau enjoys speaking with students, educators and businesses about the benefits of identifying similarities in cultures so as to enable us to embrace our differences and to make a positive contribution by proposing harmonious adjustments to effect a significant global change.
